Classroom Guidance

2025-2026 Counseling Services Annual Parent/Guardian Consent

The majority of our lessons will focus on exploring and working within Naviance, a software program used by students in grades 6–12. Naviance allows each student to create a personalized Student Success Plan, explore career options, and complete Learning Style Inventories. At the middle school level, counselors provide classroom lessons to introduce students to Naviance and guide them in accessing its many resources. This work continues in high school, where students build on their foundation with Naviance to support post-secondary planning, readiness, and long-term success.

6th Grade Naviance Activities and Objectives: 

  • Introduction to Naviance: Students learn low to log in to Naviance Student, and how to navigate goals and assessments.

  • Complete Career Cluster Finder assessment/add career clusters or pathways of interest to Favorites: Students learn which career clusters are a good match and add one career cluster to their list.

  • Complete Career Key assessment/add a career of interest to Favorites: Students will identify careers of interest.

  • Build 3-year middle school plan in Course Planner: Students will be introduced to Course Planner and build 3 year MS course plan.

  • Input Course Requests: Students will input course requests for 7th grade.

7th Grade Naviance Activities and Objectives: 

  • Naviance Refresher: Students review how to log in to Naviance Student, and how to navigate available tools.

  • Complete Career Interest Profiler assessment/add a career of interest to Favorites: Students will deepen their understanding of their Holland interest code and associated careers of interest.

  • Complete AchieveWorks Learning & Productivity assessment: Students boost academic potential by recognizing their natural learning style, discover better learning strategies, and gain career development skills.

  • Explore HS Course Catalog and Favorite HS Courses: Students will review the HS Course Catalog and favorite a course from each of the 4 core requirements and an elective.

  • Build or update a 3-year middle school plan in Course Planner: Students will update their 3 year course plan in Course Planner.

  • Input Course Requests: Students will input course requests for 8th grade.

8th Grade Naviance Activities and Objectives:

  • Naviance Refresher: Students review how to log in to Naviance Student, and how to navigate available tools.

  • Build a 4-Year Plan: Students will build their 4-year plan for high school. 

  • Explore Roadtrip Nation and add a career to Favorites: Students learn about career pathways of interest from people in the field. They reflect upon how these interviews affect their post-secondary goals or other thematic elements.

  • Input Course Requests: Students will input course requests for high school and review these courses with their high school counselors.

In addition to Naviance topics, we will present a Drug Prevention lesson in the spring.
