About the FPMS Band

Since its inception in 2010, the band program has experienced rapid growth and success aiming to provide students with tools for life through performance of quality music. The Bands at FPMS enjoy performing several concerts within the community throughout each year and consistently receive superior ratings at UIL Concert and Sight Reading as well as various state festivals.

The Four Points Band has a large 6th Grade Beginning Band, which is taught in sections that are homogenous throughout the day.  While the 6th grade beginning band learns in specialized classes, they perform together for concerts and even attend a state festival each year, where they have won first place in their classification for the past 5 years running!

Our 7th and 8th grade bands consist of three bands:  the Concert Band taught by Mr. Teti, the Symphonic Band taught by Mrs. Swan, and the Wind Ensemble taught by Mrs. Gonzales.  The 7th and 8th grade bands have earned many accolades in the decade that FPMS has been making music together, including being named a finalist for the Texas Music Educator’s Association Honor Band Competition twice in 2013 and 2019.  In 2015, the FPMS Wind Ensemble performed at the prestigious Midwest Clinic – an honor extended to only two middle schools in the United States per year!  Another wonderful recognition for the Wind Ensemble is being named a Nation Winner for the “Mark of Excellence” award by the Foundation for Music Education in 2018 and 2020.  Similarly, the Symphonic Band has earned the “Citation of Excellence” by the Foundation for Music Education in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2023.

The Four Points Band takes great pride in being the students’ “home away from home” within FPMS.  Students can be found in the band hall early in the morning, late in the afternoon, and during lunches; they are practicing their instruments, doing homework and socializing with their friends in the familiar and welcoming environment of the band hall.  The culture fostered in the Four Points band is one of achievement, friendship, and encouragement.
