Transition-aged youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families will explore practical, hands-on tools students can use to be safer in all their relationships, including romantic and sexual relationships. Through interactive activities, youth and their families will learn skills for setting boundaries and understanding consent. These activities will be followed by a discussion about safety in dating relationships. SAFE’s Disability Services staff will also discuss the importance of sexuality and healthy relationship education for young adults. Transition-aged youth commonly lack access to information about sex and healthy relationships, which can result in not having the skills they need to be safer in their relationships. During this training, youth will have an opportunity to ask questions during the group discussion or to submit questions anonymously. The presenter will then suggest resources that students can use to continue learning about the foundation of healthy relationships, consent, and boundaries.
