Alicia Gonzalez-Akens
Hello Roadrunners!
My name is Mrs. Gonzalez-Akens, and this is my fourth year at Reed! My goal is to support students’ growth by providing a comprehensive school counseling program that focuses on academic, career, and social-emotional development. Through this work, I strive to empower all students to succeed.
As a school counselor, my priority is to advocate for every student and ensure they feel safe, heard, and have a strong sense of belonging within our school community.
Prior to becoming a school counselor, I worked as an elementary teacher, teaching first, second, and third grades, and later served as an instructional coach at the elementary level. I earned a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies in Elementary Education, a Master of Education in Educational Administration, and a Master of Education in School Counseling from the University of Texas at El Paso.
Clarissa Cavazos
This marks my 9th year at Reed, and I am incredibly excited to transition into this role of supporting our students and community in a deeper and more meaningful way as one of the school counselors. My primary goal as a school counselor is to cultivate a nurturing environment where every student feels heard, valued, and empowered to overcome challenges. I am committed to working closely with teachers, staff, and parents to ensure that each child's emotional and social well-being receives the attention it deserves, alongside their academic development. Outside of school, I enjoy exploring new places with my husband and our boys, as well as cheering them on at soccer games. Together, we can foster a positive and inclusive school culture where every student can thrive and achieve their full potential.
