UIL Journalism competes in 5 different writing events at the Academic UIL competitions- Newswriting, Feature Writing, Editorial Writing, Headline Writing and Copy Editing. Copy Editing is a new event that is still in the pilot stage, so students are not able to advance past district yet. To be on the UIL Journalism team, you need to see Mrs. Hert in Lab 7. Students will compete in practice meets in the fall and early spring to prepare for the district meet, which is held in late March. Students chosen to compete at district will be the ones who placed highest in practice meets. Students that place in the top 3 in district move on the Regionals, and if they place in the top 3 at Regionals, they move on to the State UIL meet at The University of Texas in mid-May.
Mrs. Hert will host UIL practices during Friday DEN meetings.
Students on the team, please join the UIL Journalism Remind 101 for updates. Text @8b4b2f to 81010 to join.
