4th and 5th Grade Growth and Development (Puberty) Curriculum

The letter below was emailed to parents on May 1st. Please see that communication for the links to the form and to preview the videos. Contact the counselor or your child's teacher for further questions.

4th & 5th Grade Parents/Guardians:

Leander ISD 4th and 5th grade students are about to study an important lesson on the early stages of puberty which some students may be beginning to experience.  In order for students to participate, parents must complete an OPT-IN form for their child.  

At Akin Elementary, students will watch the videos listed below on Friday, May 22nd.While watching the videos, students will be separated by grade level and gender. Counselor will teach the girls and Coach Steve will teach the boys group. 

• Fourth Grade Girls “Just Around the Corner for Girls”

• Fourth Grade Boys “Just Around the Corner for Boys”

• Fifth Grade Girls   “Growing Up! For Girls”   

• Fifth Grade Boys- “Growing Up! For Boys”

The videos review the following topics:

• Reproductive systems

• Health and nutrition

• Hygiene and grooming

• Self esteem

• Physical changes

• Emotional changes

If you would like your 4th/5th Grade Student to participate in the Puberty Lesson. 

Please fill out this OPT-IN form by Wednesday, May 20th.
