AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a full year academic elective course that prepares students for college and career eligibility and success. AVID places identified students in a rigorous curriculum and gives them the support to succeed therein. The curriculum of the AVID elective focuses on writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading (WICOR) and helps students develop strategies for note taking, test preparation and research, as well as building learning and collaboration skills through peer tutoring experiences.
In middle school, AVID is offered at the 7th and 8th grade level. Students interested in enrolling in this course must participate in a qualifying process and must also be enrolled in an advanced course such as, Advanced ELA, PACE Math, Algebra, Advanced Social Studies and/or Spanish 1.
