Dauphin County Technical School

Dauphin County Technical School is a full-time, comprehensive public career and technical high school serving Central Dauphin, Derry Township, Halifax Area, Harrisburg, Lower Dauphin, Middletown Area, and Susquehanna Township school districts; however, any resident of Dauphin County is eligible to apply as well through their community school district.

Why should you attend DCTS? We provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to actively enter a dynamic and competitive high skills workforce and/or postsecondary education through the utilization of a curriculum firmly grounded in academic and workforce industry-based standards. We offer 25 state-of-the-art Career Technical Education Programs of Study for students to choose from. In addition to rigorous career and technical instructional component, students at DCTS enroll in a variety of core academic classes. Students may elect to take college preparatory, honors, or advanced placement (AP) level classes. Students who complete all of the course requirements for graduation will earn a high school diploma from Dauphin County Technical School. Following is a list of current Programs of Study at DCTS:

  • School of Construction and Manufacturing: Building Construction Technology, Carpentry, Electrical Construction & Maintenance, Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC), Landscaping & Greenhouse Production, Masonry, Precision Machining Technology, Welding Technology

  • School of Visual Arts and Information Technology: Commercial Art, Computer Networking Technology, Drafting & Design Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology, Graphic Arts, Web Development & Design

  • School of Health Sciences and Public Services: Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Dental Assistant, Emergency & Protective Services, Medical Assistant, Nursing Foundations, Veterinary Assistant

  • School of Transportation: Automotive Technology, Collision Repair Technology, Diesel Technology, Small Engine Equipment Technology

Please Note: Ninth grade students will rotate through all the Program of Study prior to making a final career and technical program selection.

Programs of Study:

The 25 Career Technical programs offered at DCTS are approved Pennsylvania Department of Education Programs of Study (POS). Students who complete the required competencies according to their POS, may be eligible for college credits through Students Occupationally and Academically Ready (SOAR) if they meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Earn a high school diploma.

  • Achieve a minimum 2.5 grade point in your technical program.

  • Achieve competent or advanced level on the National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) Exam.

  • Achieve proficiency on all tasks on the Program of Study competency task list.

  • Furnish proof to the postsecondary Institution that students have met the requirements of the SOAR Program of Study.

Application Process:

Students interested in attending the Dauphin County Technical School must be in 8th grade or higher and should contact their school counselor to complete the required application within the allotted timeframe.
