Journeys

We utilize Journeys by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Students may access Journeys resources by logging into Classlink and clicking Think Central.

Accelerated Reader

With the Accelerated Reader Program, students are able to check their comprehension of books that they read independently. After they log in, they take a short comprehension quiz on their chosen book, earning points if they pass. The program keeps track of the points and monitors student progress toward their reading goal, which is individualized for each student's reading level. While students cannot take quizzes at home, they may still log in and show you their progress.

AR BookFind is a great tool for students and families to ensure that each child finds books within their reading range that are neither too easy nor too difficult.

Writing

Over the course of the year, we cover many different genres of writing.  These include Narrative, Informative/Explanatory, and Persuasive/Opinion.  The following rubrics give a feel for the expectations in focus, organization, conventions, language, and vocabulary expected in second grade.
