Core Literature

We will be reading 3 core literature books this year in 3rd grade. 

When we are reading a core literature book, we will follow spelling from the Rebecca Sitton program.

It is best for your child to read these for the first time with the whole class in order to stay more engaged with the text. 

Reading Textbook- Journeys

We will be using the Journeys textbook throughout the year.  When we are reading from the textbook, we will follow the spelling that is embedded in the program. A typical week will begin with story vocabulary, followed by reading of the text with discussion about the story. Then students will complete a lesson theme, followed by a second reading of the story and a comprehension review. Finally students will be tested on the story and vocabulary.

Next the focus will be on the language skill that goes with the lesson. Students will also practice a writing skill during the week. In addition students will read a non-fiction companion text that goes with the story theme. Finally students will be tested on the language skill.
