Students earn points by reading books and taking/passing AR quizzes.
Books with higher points are generally longer and will take longer to read.
Please remind students to do the following:
Read books within their reading level as determined by the STAR test taken at school.
Read at least 15 minutes each night after school.
Take AR tests when they finish reading a book. (Take test during school hours and at school only!)
Goal is 70% or above
Students let Mrs. Slattery know when they have passed a test.
Students let Mrs Slattery know when they have met their point goal.
Remember, in order to earn points, students must pass the AR test for that book.
Please help make sure your child finds books that will help develop their reading. It should not be too easy or too hard.
This 5 finger rule is helpful if you don't know the book level:
1. Flip to any page in the book
2. Have child read aloud the page.
3. If there are 5 or more words that your child cannot decode correctly, then the level is too difficult. (names don't count)
You can check your child's AR progress at home by signing up for emails from Renaissaince Learning (The company that makes Accelerated Reader tests) A letter will come home explaining how to do this.
