Bogolanfini- African Mud Cloth

In honor of Black History Month, February Art Students researched the traditional patterns of Bogolanfini, or the African Mud Cloth. The students had to stay within a specific color scheme that mimicked the use of clays and mud, along with various leaves and teas, that were used to stain linen fabrics in a variety of patterns using repetitive line and shape. Students either honored a traditional design or created their own Bogolanfini inspired design. This lesson also reviewed Line, Shape, and Pattern.
