SYLLABUS

The syllabus will go home with students on the first two days of class and includes an information sheet for parents to fill out. If your student did not bring one home, you can print or view using the following link:

GRADING SCALE

Tests (Written and Playing) 60%

Quizzes 20%

Class Participation (General Participation & Preparedness) 10%

Concert Attendance 10%

CONCERT ATTENDANCE POLICY

Concert attendance and performance is an essential part of learning to play an instrument. All band students are required to attend all scheduled performances. If a student must miss a concert due to illness or emergency, please email me BEFORE THE CONCERT and a make up assignment will be assigned. Students missing a performance will have a performance assessment with a valid excuse. Conflicts other than death in the family and student illness are not excusable reasons to miss a concert, and no make up assignment will be assigned.

COUNTY/REGION/STATE HONOR BAND PREPARATION CLINICS

I will be available for appointments to work individually with students on all audition materials. Please email me to set up a time before/after school or during Prime Time.

HONOR BAND

The AJMS Honor Band will begin rehearsals for the 2022-2023 School Year on September 28, 2022. This is an auditioned group of young musicians. Students in this group will compete and perform in the community.

FOCUS STUDENTS

Please be reminded that AJMS Honor Band, Solo and Ensemble, and Region Band Auditions are required events for focus students!

Term Quizzes/Tests

In an effort to prepare students for region and all state band auditions, all 7th and 8th grade students will learn and take quizzes based on the SC Band Director's Association list of required junior level music terms. These quizzes will require students to memorize definitions and write them word for word to mimic the requirements of the region and all state band auditions.
