Public Forum

When our board meets

Regular monthly meetings

- 7 p.m.

- third Tuesday of each month

- district board room, 300 S. Catawba Street

Called meetings

- set by the board when it needs to consider issues that will consume a great amount of time or with issues that must be considered before a regularly scheduled meeting

The board tries to adjourn meetings by 11 p.m.

Meeting agendas are posted on the district website, sent to local newspapers and to radio and television stations as well as parent-teacher group officers, school improvement council officers and elected officials

What’s on each agenda

Each regular meeting agenda contains

- a 30-minute period for public to address the board

- reports to give the board information

- reports on issues the board needs to consider for action

- an executive session when the board deals with contractual, personnel or legal matters

- after executive session, the board meets in open session to vote on any items requiring action as a result of executive session.

A called meeting agenda varies depending on the issues to be considered, but it basically follows the same format as a regular meeting. However, called meetings usually don’t include public forum time.

Limited numbers of copies of the information presented will be available at each meeting and on the district website. If you would like the information and don’t get it at the meeting or please check the district website or contact Michelle Craig, and she’ll get copies for you.

How meetings work

The board has policies defining its responsibilities and setting procedures for considering issues. If you want to see our board policies, copies are in each school, in the district office and on the district website.

The superintendent reports to the board either as information or for action. Usually, the board receives information on reports two-three days before a meeting so board members can study and ask questions before the meeting.

If you want to address an issue before the board, you must do so during public forum time.

How public forum works

Remember that personnel matters cannot be addressed during public forum. This means you cannot speak about concerns or grievances regarding employees of the district. These matters need to be addressed with Human Resources or school/district administration.

Please limit your comments to five minutes so everyone who wants to speak during public forum will have the opportunity to do so.
