Keeping up grades in high school can be tough, but it’s even tougher when juggling sports. Freshman student athlete Tucker Bohn has learned how to juggle good grades with multiple sports throughout the school year. Bohn began to play sports around age 5 or 6 and plans to continue to play at the next level after graduation.
Bohn has had a successful year in all three sports he plays - wrestling, football, and soccer. In football, he was an All-Region Defensive Lineman. In wrestling, he was the Region champion for the 182-pound weight class, finishing 3rd at Lower State and going on to compete at State. He was awarded All-Region honors for wrestling as well. In his first year on the varsity soccer team, the team won the Region championship for the first time in eight years, capping off a season that saw wins over both Grey Collegiate and Andrew Jackson.
Playing three sports with three different disciplines, it could be difficult to find a favorite. Bohn leans toward wrestling, “because my teammates are some of his best friends and encourage me. My wrestling success is encouraging for me because it pushed me to want to do more,” Bohn said.
Although it brings excitement and fun, participating in three sports has its challenges. “The biggest challenge to playing multiple sports in school is playing through injuries that occur during the season, and it can be difficult to go to two different practices in one day and putting in the work needed to be successful,” Bohn said. “You have to sacrifice free time often in order to do what needs to be done.”
Bohn gives himself an hour between practices to focus on his schoolwork. It is really important to make sure all the work is done. “It’s tough because some days you just don’t feel like doing all the stuff.”
When he does have free time, Bohn likes to cook, and aspires to go to culinary school eventually. Football, wrestling, soccer, cooking, and of course school work. A not so average student athlete finds inspiration in the outcomes of his efforts. “Don’t give up - even when you are tired, just keep at it! It’s hard, but the results are worth it.”
