Get a jump on college with Lancaster County School District's Dual Enrollment Program. Offered in cooperation with the University of South Carolina-Lancaster, dual enrollment courses offer students opportunities to experience college rigor while working on their high school diploma. Grades awarded in Lancaster County Board-Approved courses are entered onto the high school transcript as well as the college transcript.
Dual credit courses are offered two ways:
Students can take HIST 111 and 112 at BHS. They can also take dual enrollment classes on the USCL campus in Lancaster. Students are responsible for their own transportation and subject to all rules and regulations traditional USCL students must follow. Students are also allowed to take some of the classes asynchronously.
How are dual enrollment classes funded?
Dual enrollment classes are paid for with SC Lottery funds. You must have a 3.0 GPA to qualify for those funds. The money you spend on DE classes will NOT reduce the scholarship you are awarded when you graduate from high school. HOWEVER, it is IMPERATIVE that you maintain a 3.0 GPA in those college classes, or you risk losing your lottery scholarship. Dual enrollment classes are on BOTH the high school transcript and your college transcript.
Who can take Dual Enrollment Classes?
Only Juniors and Seniors can participate in the Dual Enrollment program. However, sophomores can take DE classes the summer after their sophomore year if they have a 3.0 weighted GPA.
