Unit 2: Function Characteristics
Unit 3: Absolute Value Functions
Unit 4: Quadratic Functions
Unit 5: Polynomial Functions
Unit 6: Radical Functions
Unit 7: Rational Functions
Unit 8: Exponential & Logarithmic Functions
Unit 9: Sequences, Series, & Statistics
Course Website: I maintain this website on Google to keep you informed of due dates, projects, and any other pertinent class information. I will update the page regularly. If you need more current information, please email me.
Absences: It is your responsibility to make up your work, get notes, etc. when absent. You will find missed work in the “We Missed You” binder upon your return (the next day you are back—not the next class and not during class).
One day is allotted to complete make-up work for each day absent.
Request work for planned absences (sports trips, choir, field trips, family vacations) before you leave.
Unit Quizzes & Tests: Attempt all the problems and show your work. Solutions must be neat, organized, and thorough.
Quizzes will be worth approximately 50 points and tests will be worth approximately 100 points.
Make up these assignments in HHS Testing Center (room 601) within one week of the absence.
Mastery Checks: There will be daily mastery quizzes created from problems like the homework and classwork. These 10-point assignments will be graded on accuracy and will be summative. If you are absent, plan on making up the Mastery Check you missed in the testing center.
Skills Reviews: These assignments are due on the day stated. Problem Sets will be given out throughout the nine-weeks.
They will consist of material from previous math courses or previously taught material in Algebra 2 and will be paired with a summative assessment in class the day they are due.
Students leaving school early are still required to submit long-term assignments on the stated due date (e.g. prior to leaving for a field trip), which may require putting the assignment in the teacher’s mailbox in the main office.
Assignments will range from 20-50 points each.
Re-Assessment Policy: Students may complete a re-assessment for unit tests and quizzes AFTER completing corrective action. A separate handout detailing this procedure will be distributed and explained in class. All corrective action and re-assessment opportunities must be completed by the designated date!
Homework: This year, homework will primarily be assignments requiring students to watch a video and complete a notes sheet. Students should watch the video and take notes on the handout provided. This content will be integral to our next class, and must be viewed prior to class.
Digital copies of all handouts can be found on the course website.
Completion of each video’s accompanying handout/notes sheet will be checked for completion (but will not earn a graded score).
If students have questions during instructional videos, they should jot them down to ask in class OR post to our Padlet (virtual bulletin board).
Extra Help: I am available for extra help outside of school hours if you sign up for an appointment. During school hours, Math Lab available during every study hall. Don’t fall behind—seek out extra help!
Tardy Policy: You are expected to be in your seat and ready to begin your warm-up when the bell rings. If you are not, you will be counted as tardy.
Tardy Penalties:
1st = warning
2nd = warning
3rd = after school detention
4th = after school detention
5th = referral
First Block Tardies:
Students who are tardy to A1/B5 MUST report to the attendance desk for a pass to class. Students who are tardy A1/B5 will not be admitted to class without a pass from the attendance desk (per HHS policy).
Classroom Etiquette: I expect readiness, responsibility, and respectfulness. There is a time to work quietly, to chat lowly, and opine boisterously; by this time, you should be well aware of the etiquette in these things, but I’ll remind you in case of a lapse. My rules include:
READY:
Be on-time, on-task, and prepared to learn every day.
Personal electronics are for educational purposes only.
RESPONSIBLE:
Be responsible for your own learning.
Trash goes in the trash can!
RESPECTFUL:
Respect the teacher.
Respect the classroom.
Respect other students.
Out of Classroom Experiences: Plan to use the restroom and get water before coming to class. Have your homework and supplies. If it is an emergency, you will need to get permission, sign out, and take the e-hall pass. An absence of longer than 5 minutes is considered skipping (and will be dealt with accordingly).
Food and Drink: You may bring a drink to class, but the container must have a lid. Food is permitted in the classroom as long as it does not result in litter, distraction, or an assault on your classmates’ olfactory glands. Please be aware of your classmates’ allergies.
Bags & Personal Items: All book bags, purses, and other personal items must remain around the perimeter of the room or underneath your desk. There should never be items obstructing a walkway between desks.
