Volunteer Hours & Opportunities

Please note: Volunteer hours are not a graduation requirement.

Loudoun County Public Schools does not require high school students to volunteer. To encourage our students to give back, Rock Ridge High School recognizes those who do volunteer.   

 

The Volunteer "log" for the 2023-2024 School Year is now open.  LCPS is now using SchooLinks, which allows students to enter their hours under "Experience Tracker".  Here is the How-To Form for entering Volunteer Hours in SchooLinks.  Students must go through LCPS GO to access SchooLinks.  Parent access to SchooLinks will not allow student volunteer (Experience Tracker) entries. 



Balls Bluff Battlefield – Guides are needed for tours of the historic site. The Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority will train volunteers. E-mail templehallfarm@nvrpa.org Volunteers are also needed for trail maintenance, landscaping and general clean-up.

 

Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve – Help preserve manager remove invasive plants. Equipment is provided; take work gloves and beverages. (703) 507-5165

Claude Moore Recreation Center Teen Night Program – Volunteers are needed to help with check-in and check-out, organizing and helping with activities and chaperoning from 6-9:30 PM Fridays during the school year. Staff members will help supervise the program. Call Sharon at 571-258-3600

 

Dulles International Airport – Volunteers greet and help travelers at the information desk for one weekly shift of three to four hours. Experience in airline operations and customer service and knowledge of foreign languages are helpful but not required. 703-572-7350

 

Girl Scouts of America – Volunteer mentors are needed a few hours a month. 202-237-1670 or 800-523-7898

Habitat for Humanity ReStore – Volunteers are needed for all skill levels and flexible working shifts.  Duties include cashiering, general warehouse help, stocking, sorting, merchandising, customer service and appliance/large furniture donation pick-up.  No experience necessary.  Training will be provided.  Store hours are 10AM – 6PM Monday through Saturday. 540-579-4508 www.loudounhabitat.org

 

INMED Partnerships for Children - Family and Youth Opportunity Center in Sterling -  Volunteers are needed for our after-school program, as well as other adult and children programs here at the Center. INOVA Loudoun Hospital Volunteer Services - Volunteer Opportunities are available for individual volunteers.   Volunteers must be a minimum of 16 years old; however, there is no maximum age to volunteer. All volunteers are required to fulfill all Joint Commission and Hospital Policies which are outlined fully on our website www.inova.org/ILHVolunteers. Volunteers will commit to a minimum of 6 months of continuous service (at this time we do not offer Summer Only or Winter Only volunteer programs) with one regular volunteer shift per week in their assigned department. LINK Against Hunger - LINK, Inc. is a non-profit, 501C3 charity that exists to provide emergency food to people in need in the Herndon, Sterling, and Ashburn, Virginia communities. The all-volunteer staff members at LINK believe in the power of selfless service and the importance of providing people in crisis with unconditional love. 

 

Loudoun Cares - We seek to build and strengthen the Loudoun Community by strengthening its nonprofits. Loudoun Library Foundation – Help receive, sort pack and move books for the annual book sale to benefit local libraries. 703-779-2252

  

Loudoun Volunteer Caregivers – A nonprofit charity that assists elderly and disabled adults across the county. There is a new program that offers students (ages 12-18) volunteering opportunities, leadership skills and the opportunity to grow relationships with the elderly and disabled in our community. 

Our Student Caregiver program is being offered to public, private and home-schooled children ages 12-18 and enables students to volunteer in (a) group projects and (b) teams of 2 to 4 students with one vetted and trained adult volunteer (usually a parent or a teacher).  These SC teams are then set up with either an individual care receiver who is seeking supportive services from LVC.   Services may include: shopping, walking, playing games, light housekeeping, reading, or yard work.  Please feel free to contact me with questions, to set up a time for me to stop by and discuss this new volunteering program, or for any other information.  You can visit our website at www.lvcaregivers.org.  Please contact:  Davanna Black - Student Volunteer Coordinator - 703.779.8617 

Students that are 14 years – 18 years old can also participate in the Medical Explorers Program through Inova Loudoun Hospital. This program is run by the Community Affairs Department.   The Medical Explorers Program is for High School Students (freshman – seniors) and explores different careers in the medical field. MADD Loudoun – Volunteers assemble ribbons for the annual Tie One On for Safety campaign. Stores and businesses are needed to distribute the ribbons. Students can receive two community service hours for every 500 ribbons. 703-771-8127, maddloudoun@aol.com
