High school students interested in applying to the Academies of Loudoun MUST have a PSAT (NMSQT) score on file in order to apply to the Academies of Loudoun during the 2023 Winter Admissions Cycle.

MATA Admission Criteria – All applicants must submit an application in order to be considered for enrollment

The resume must include:

Full name and LCPS student ID

 

Advanced AET Admission Criteria - All applicants must submit an application in order to be considered for enrollment

 

**Applicants without a PSAT score report may submit an SAT or an ACT score report as a substitute.  Results must be submitted to the Admissions Office prior to February 21, 2023

MATA 1-Year Pathway Descriptions 

Administration of Justice 

This pathway prepares students for entry-level employment in the law enforcement and criminal justice system as well as entrance into institutions of higher learning in the related fields of criminal justice, political science, and law.

Auto Collision Repair

This pathway provides basic knowledge and skills in the use of shop materials, equipment, tools, procedures, and manuals in the auto body and auto refinishing fields.

Biotechnology

This pathway introduces students to the world of biotechnology which includes the study of living organisms or their products to modify human health and the human environment. 

Building Construction

Students acquire basic understanding of residential construction and the carpentry trade. The program also provides instruction on plan reading and comprehension. 

Certified Nurse Aide

This is a one-year certified nurse aide pathway approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing.

CISCO (DE)

This pathway covers networking concepts, design, implementation, management and operation at an introductory and advanced level.

Culinary Arts

This pathway is designed to prepare students for employment in the culinary industry or to continue with post-secondary training in such areas as culinary arts, baking and pastry, or restaurant management.

Cybersecurity (DE)

In this course, students enter the world of computer technology and gain practical experience in assembling a computer system. The curriculum provides students with training in procedures for optimizing and troubleshooting concepts for computer systems, subsystems, and networks. Students explore basic network design and connectivity, network documentation, limitations and weaknesses, and network security, standards and protocols.  Students will gain a basic understanding of emerging technologies including unified communications, mobile, cloud, and virtualization technologies. The course prepares students for postsecondary education and training and a successful career in information technology. Upon successful completion of the course, students may qualify to take CompTIA’s A+ and Network+ certification exams.

Emergency Medical Technician

The pathway is designed to provide training to individuals in order to function independently in a medical emergency and serve as a vital link in the chain of the health care team.

Environmental Plant Science (DE)

This pathway focuses on plants as related to environmental responsibility.

Firefighter

This pathways teaches students the Virginia Department of Fire Programs curriculum.

Health Informatics

This pathway explores aspects of Health Informatics to include the history of health information technology (IT), the Electronic Health Record (EHR), ethical and privacy issues, and cybersecurity and data breaches.  Students will be introduced to the various technology and trends that affect the healthcare industry.

Introduction to Health & Medical Sciences (DE) (for 10th grade only)

This pathway introduces students to the key elements of the US healthcare system, including medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and the vast array of careers within the health and medical professions.

HVAC

This pathway provides basic knowledge and skills in residential and commercial air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating.

Masonry

This pathway familiarizes students with various materials, tools, equipment, and practices of the masonry trade

Television Production and Digital Moviemaking

This pathway provides hands-on training with computer effects, computer editing, professional camera equipment, and audio production.  

Veterinary Science

This pathway orients the student to Veterinary Science, covering topics such as anatomy and physiology, terminology, safety and sanitation, parasitology, posology, animal nutrition, breeds, professional conduct, office management, and emerging technologies in animal agriculture.

MATA 2-Year Pathway Descriptions

Auto Service Technology

This pathway provides the opportunity for students to develop the skills needed to follow environmental and safety practices and inspect, diagnose, adjust, and repair the systems of the modern technological automobile.

Biomedical Technology

This pathway focuses on various Biomedical techniques ranging from Bioprocessing and DNA analysis, to medicine, biomechanical systems, and the environment.  Students completing the 2-year sequence gain foundational knowledge and skills appropriate for a variety of medical-related career paths in the field of biotechnology.  They are introduced to laboratory procedures that support bioscience research and practice, and they investigate safety, quality assurance, and the ethical concerns associated with the field of biomedical technology.

Computer and Digital Animation 

This pathway introduces students to digital content creation and animation. Students create content suitable for TV, film, computer simulations, computer games, and architectural visualization.

Computer Integrated Engineering and Design (DE)

CIED provides students with a foundation of skills needed for manufacturing and engineering in today’s “high tech” workplace.

Cosmetology

Students are taught the skills necessary to develop job entry requirements as a cosmetologist.

Graphic Communications

This pathway is an introduction and investigation of variable topics in graphic design, computer graphics and visual communication principles, theory and practice.

Medical Laboratory Technology (DE)

Introduction to Medical Laboratory Technology presents a brief history of the medical laboratory profession, code of ethics, laboratory safety, and phlebotomy followed by an introduction into the tests performed on blood and body fluids in the areas of hematology, chemistry, immunohematology, microbiology, serology and urinalysis. Simulations are performed using microscopes, chemical reagents, computers and automated equipment. Additionally, the student completes a study of body systems and anatomy as they are portrayed in the field of laboratory medicine. 

Pharmacy Technology (DE)

This pathway is designed to provide students with the basic skills and knowledge to begin work as a pharmacy technician.

Radiology Technology (DE)

Introduction to Radiology, Protection & Patient Care presents a brief history of the radiologic profession, codes of ethics, basic concepts of radiation protection, patient care within the radiology department.  Additionally, the student completes a study of body systems and anatomy as they are portrayed in medical imaging.

Welding (DE)

This pathway trains students in welding, cutting, and brazing.
