Hotline and Question Form Remain Available
As a reminder, LCPS has a COVID-19 hotline (571-252-6499) and a Frequently Asked Questions webpage where the latest information about the division’s response to the coronavirus is available. There’s also an online form where you can submit questions in writing at any time. Families are encouraged to use these resources to ask any questions you may have about the latest plans and activities across the division.
US Census Continues
Even as we all adjust to the challenges of the virus situation; the 2020 US Census has begun. Loudoun’s Census count impacts LCPS as much as any other county program. Loudoun County receives more than $15 million in federal funding based on Census data for school programs. These programs include free- and reduced-price school meals, special education, Title I resources, Head Start, teacher training and more. For each child or adult not counted in the 2020 Census, Loudoun County expects to lose $2,000 per year in federal funding during the next 10 years. Please respond to the request you will received in the mail to complete the online Census questionnaire. It’s important that everyone gets counted!

Spring Break April 6-10
The Seldens Landing staff has worked exceptionally hard over the past three weeks to create a virtual school as quickly as possible. The admin team is super proud and grateful of our staff, and what we have created in such a short period of time. With that said, the teachers and specialists are offering a variety of new learning activities during Spring Break. All of the previous learning activities we have shared already will continue to be available to you as well (and there's plenty of content from our Specialists that you probably haven't seen yet!). The LCPS calendar had previously scheduled next week (April 6-10) for Spring Break. Our staff deserves the opportunity to unplug for a while. During spring break, teachers will be available on a limited basis. Also, teachers are suspending office hours and emails may take longer than 24 hours to respond to.
Professional Development on April 13th and 14th
Following Spring Break, Monday, April 13th and Tuesday, April 14th have been designated as teacher workdays. Staff will be receiving training on synchronous learning and planning for new instruction to occur beginning on April 15th. Students may work on material and assignments posted during the week of April 6-10th or engaging in activities on the LCPS Continuity of Education website. As a reminder, this site includes a variety of supports, including resources for Special Education, English Learners, and Mental Health.
Virtual Learning beginning April 15th
Beginning on Wednesday, April 15th, adjustments to our distance learning instructional model will include NEW skills and knowledge. Teachers may provide synchronous and asynchronous learning opportunities (see below).
Asynchronous Learning Experiences (Teacher & students online at different times)
Synchronous Learning Experiences (Teacher & students online at the same time)
Quarter 3 Grades
Quarter 3 grades will be determined based on work completed through March 11th. Students will have until April 17th to submit any missing assignments that were administered prior to March 11th. No assignment submitted in the gradebook from work submitted after March 11 will negatively impact a student's grade. Report cards are available to families via ParentVUE on April 25 after 4:00 PM.
Special Permission
The Special Permission window is now open. Special permission allows students to attend a school outside of their regular attendance zone. The regular special permission request window is now open until June 30. If you are considering to reauthorize or apply for a new special permission request, you can apply here.
Kindergarten Registration
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and closure of LCPS campuses, kindergarten registration has been rescheduled from Wednesday, March 18, to Wednesday, April 15. The school registrar will contact parents/guardians and registration will be managed through a virtual platform. Families will be able to upload the required documents to complete the registration process. Registrars will maintain the current appointment time slots that were originally scheduled on Wednesday, March 18, as much as possible, and will work with families for any appointments that were scheduled after March 18. The school registrar will work with parents to support them during this process. If you have any questions, please contact Patti Spurlock, Senior Registrar, at patti.spurlock@lcps.org.
The administration team is also incredibly proud of how our families have rallied together! We want to extend our sincere gratitude to each of you. Your positive influence in the home is inspiring to your children. Families need to hear-keep up the great work!
Thank you,
Garett Brazina
Principal
Hello Cardinal Parent(s)/Guardian(s)!
Your school counselors would love your input on what topics would be most helpful for us to cover in our counseling lessons during this time of virtual learning. The Counseling Department is working together to provide weekly lessons to all grade levels based on social/emotional, career, and academic topics. Due to the unique situation we are all in, however, we'd like to provide you the opportunity to request topics you feel your student(s) would most immediately benefit from. We want to be as helpful as possible in this unexpected season! Please complete the attached survey here. Your response will remain anonymous, and we will do our best to meet the needs indicated by the feedback we receive.
Your counselors,
Annie Brinker and Becca Twentey

Hello Seldens Families:
As we begin the month of April, we are providing the "News Landing" link that will direct our students and families to the April updates. You can still access previous months, but we wanted to make sure our families are being directed to the most recent updates. Miss Haskins is hosting our morning news show for Wednesday, April 1.
Also, I have included a link to two documents that were presented to our school board Tuesday evening. The first document is the Continuity of Education Plan, and the other is the Distance Learning School Board Presentation. The information provided in the documents outlines the educational plan during our school closure. I would encourage families to read both documents.
Thank you

Hello Families,
We will provide families a weekly virtual schedule for students to follow. The schedule will include a daily announcement, a daily activity provided by our specialists, read aloud, and teacher created activities. The current guidance from the Virginia Department of Education is that the teacher created activities are based on previously taught content. If you have any questions, please communicate with your child's teacher. Teachers will share additional information about your child's academic work by this weekend. Teacher created lessons are provided by your child's teacher. Distance learning for students begins the week of March 30.
Cardinals, we miss you and take care!
