Viking Capstone
Loudoun Valley High School
Loudoun Valley High School
The purpose of the Viking Capstone is to provide graduates of Loudoun Valley with meaningful experiences, self-fulfillment, and opportunities for post-secondary success through civic engagement and career exploration.
Qualifying seniors are excused from classes in the later part of the school year in order to pursue an internship, community service project, or career development opportunity.
Career development opportunities can range from internships to job shadowing. Students have discretion in choosing their project, as long as the project will provide an authentic experience. Community service projects can range from hands-on experiences to administrative work.
All participants are required to find both a community mentor and a Loudoun Valley staff mentor for their project. The community mentor should be the person who will be responsible for guiding them during their Capstone experience. The staff mentor may be any staff member at Valley with whom the student has a positive relationship and will be responsible for guiding the student through the Capstone process as well has holding students accountable for the work they are proposing to complete. The Viking Capstone Team will work together with community and staff mentors to approve all proposed Capstones experiences before students may leave the school campus.
To finalize the Capstone experience, all participating students are required participate in and present their experience though the Capstone Community Expo. Please see the Schedule page for the dates and times of all Capstone related events.
Michael Skvarch is the lead coordinator and would be happy to field any questions you may have regarding Capstone.
