Heritage High School Grading Expectations
Heritage Teachers will use the following Guidelines when using grades to communicate student progress.
1. Grades entered into the gradebook will relate directly to the standards and/or competencies listed in the designated course curriculum; and should reflect a student’s mastery of content or skills.
2. Daily assignments, homework, quizzes, projects, presentations, tests, examinations, may all be components of a student’s grades.
3. Attendance, effort, and attitude or other student behaviors will not be graded.
4. For all major summative assessments, you will have one new opportunity to demonstrate mastery. These opportunities shall be provided to any student scoring below a 90 who desires to demonstrate growth after completing corrective action designed to increase learning as determined by the CLT team. For students who take advantage of this opportunity, the highest grade achieved, whether initial or subsequent attempt(s), will be recorded in the gradebook. The highest grade possible for any subsequent attempt will be a 90. (Please note that this does not apply to Dual Enrollment Classes).
5. For any student scoring below a 60 on any major summative assignment, the teacher will communicate to specific corrective action with the student. The student will be offered an additional opportunity to demonstrate mastery (Please note that this does not apply to Dual Enrollment Classes).
6. If a student has made a reasonable attempt to complete work that is weighted and contributes to the grade during the quarter, teachers, or teacher teams are expected to assign a grade no lower than 50 at the end of the quarter. If a student will receive below a 50 for a quarter grade, arrangements should be made for the teacher or team to meet with the principal to explain the situation and discuss the intervention plan for the student (Please note that this does not apply to Dual Enrollment Classes).
7. A reasonable attempt contains three elements: 1.) the students attempted at least 50% of the work, 2.) the student follows the directions as outlined by the teacher, 3) the student’s answers are on topic.
