Hybrid Learning Structure

Students who chose hybrid, in-person learning are scheduled to be at school two days a week (either on Tuesday/Wednesday or Thursday/Friday). This structure will have them at Independence on one A day and one B day each week. Hybrid learning students are expected to attend their courses through distance learning on the days they are not assigned to attend in-person.

You can check to see what day your student is assigned to attend in-person through ParentVUE by following these steps:

3. Scroll down to Return-to-School

4. Look on the Right under S2 In person learning days (T=Tues, W=Wed, R=Thurs, F=Fri)

Please note: If a student attends a program the Academies of Loudoun, they will also have Semester 2 In-person learning days indicated under the concurrent school section.

Concurrent teaching occurs when in-person and distance learning students are taught at the same time by the same teacher. Concurrent teaching uses both synchronous and asynchronous instructional strategies.

A hybrid classroom concurrently operating with distance learners will consist of hybrid in-person students, hybrid distance students, and 100% distance learning students. Hybrid students will have in-person instruction two days per week. Distance learners will experience all instruction virtually. All learners will engage in asynchronous instruction on Mondays.

All teachers have undergone professional development to help support them with this change in instructional delivery.

Teachers who have been approved for distance learning due to a qualifying need will be assigned a proctor, a substitute teacher, or an existing site-based substitute teacher to supervise their in-person students. Proctors and substitute teachers may also be assigned to monitor classes when a teacher is absent due to illness or quarantine.

Each classroom has been set up to allow for at least 6 ft. of distance between students and between the teacher and students. Desks are positioned to maximize social distancing. Plastic shields have also been installed on student and teacher desks in all classrooms.

There are 7 minutes between classes. Administration and other staff will be in the hallway during the passing periods to enforce social distancing and health mitigation measure. Students needing to use the restroom are encouraged to request an e-hall pass during class so as to minimize the number of students using the restroom in transition time between class periods.
