Library Distance Learning FAQs

Can I check books out during distance learning?

Yes! First of all, you have access to our school's eBook and digital audiobook collection through MackinVIA. You can access MackinVIA through Schoology, LCPS GO, the library website or the free app on an android or iOS device.

We will also be circulating print books during the school closure, so you can also check out physical print books!

How do I check out print library books during distance learning?

Library curbside pickup ended for the school year on May 27. All library books are due on June 1. All students will continue to have access to MackinVIA eBooks and digital audiobooks after June 1. If a student still needs a print library book after June 1, contact a member of the library staff.

What about the Book Bus?

Due to transportation reallocating the buses that were used as Book Buses, the Book Bus program ended on November 23.

How do I return library books during distance learning?

MackinVIA eBooks will automatically return at the end of the checkout period.

Physical print books can be returned during the week in the "book return" box outside the front of the school building M-F during school hours except for school holidays.

On June 7 and June 16 only, distance learning students can return library books to any meal delivery bus. Routes and bus stop times can be found on the LCPS website.

Can I return books from other LCPS schools to the Farmwell "Book Return" box?

As long as the book belongs to another Loudoun County Public School, you can return it in the Farmwell book return box and a member of the library staff will make sure it is returned to its home school.

You can also return books from Farmwell teachers to our book return box, and as long as it is labelled with the teacher's name, we will make sure it gets back to them

Will books be quarantined?

Yes. We will not check books in when we receive them for several days. This means they will remain on the student's account for several days after being returned and will not go back into circulation until after the quarantine period. The length of the quarantine will be based on the latest data for how long the virus lives on books.
