Mrs. Shearer

Hello everyone!

My name is Nizama Dervisevic and I couldn't be more proud to say that I will be teaching the wonderful third grade at Frederick Douglass Elementary! Teaching has always been my dream, and I am very passionate in what I do. I am originally from Bosnia and Herzegovina, but have been living in the United States for 20 years! I attended Virginia Commonwealth University where I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Disciplinary Studies with a focus on Early and Elementary Education and a minor in Psychology, as well as my Master of Teaching in May of 2019.

I believe the best way for students to learn is through hands-on authentic opportunities. I do my best to make sure children see the importance in what they're learning and push them to develop critical skills that are needed in any future career. I greatly look forward to meeting and working with all of you. I believe that each child is unique and I strive to make sure each child receives the support he/she needs in order to be successful. I want the very best for every child and understand how important it is to make that connection between their home and school life. Therefore, please feel free to contact me at any time throughout the school year to schedule a meeting!

I am looking forward to a fun and enriching school year, and hope that you are just as excited as I am!
