Meet the Library Staff
A Little About Mrs. Allder
I began my education career in 2003, at Seldens Landing Elementary, where I taught Special Education K-2 and 3rd grade. In 2012, I became a charter staff member at Frederick Douglass Elementary. Along my 7 year journey at Frederick Douglass, I had the privilege of looping up with one of my classes and taught 4th grade. I spent my last 3 years in the classroom teaching 4th grade and loved every minute of it. During those 3 years, I worked through the School Librarianship program at Longwood University. In the summer of 2019, I became the librarian at Emerick Elementary School. I am excited to being my 3rd year as a school librarian for the 2021-2022 school year.
When I am not teaching, I am typically at home with my 2 boys and husband running from one soccer field to another. My oldest is in 10th grade and my youngest is in 5th grade. Both boys play soccer and basketball and keep me on my toes. This year we will also be on the field listening to our trumpet player in marching band. When we are not on the soccer field, you can typically find me with a book curled up on the couch. Reading is my passion and what led me to not only want to be a teacher, but to become a school librarian.
My Personal Library Vision
As the school librarian, it is my mission to create a welcoming, safe environment and to offer equitable services and materials to all students and staff. It is my vision to be able to collaborate with staff members to help empower students to cultivate their learning through research and the use of technology. It is my hope that through interactive lessons, students will continue to make goals for themselves and that the library will be a strong piece in their never-ending quest for knowledge.
A Little About Mrs. Hawk!
Mrs. Marilyn Hawk is our wonderful and helpful library assistant. Her background has been in education for many years. She worked with the Resource team here at Emerick prior to joining the library staff. She has had extensive training in early childhood education with a focus in literacy.
