LCPS Senior Capstone

Senior Capstone is an experiential learning experience to engage students in meaningful, self-fulfilling, and educational opportunities for post-secondary success.  The two main areas for student participation are civic engagement and career exploration/readiness. The goal of Senior Capstone is to provide opportunities for authentic experiences that positively impact both individual students, schools, and the community.  LCPS is proud to offer students a platform to showcase the 5 C's of a LCPS Graduate that foster deeper learning: Communicator, Collaborator, Critical Thinker, Creator, and Contributor.

Civic engagement and career exploration can range from hands-on experiences to administrative work. Career development opportunities can range from internships to job shadowing.  Individual school Senior Capstone coordinators have discretion in choosing their community partners, approval of students projects, calendar dates, and any showcase of Senior Capstone content made available to the school community, parents, and partners.

Student collaboration with Senior Capstone staff in regards to suggesting community partners, brainstorming ideas, and engaging in experiential learning is contingent on specific school Senior Capstone staff organizers.

Senior Capstone availability is dependent upon safety measures as defined by the VDOE.  Senior Capstone Projects planned for in-person may have to be moved to a virtual format, or may not be able to be completed. Each school has the right to approve or deny student project requests and amend the specifics of what is approved for virtual participation and/or in-person.
