Public Forum debates (PF) center around current events and rely on both logic and evidence to construct arguments.
It consists of 8 speeches and 3 crossfires, each with a time limit. The first speech is pre-written and presents the team's "contentions". Arguments either supporting or opposing the resolution (topic). The two speakers from each team who presented cases then participate in a 3 minute crossfire.
A Lincoln-Douglas debate (LD) is a type of one on one competitive debate that places a heavy emphasis on logic, ethical values, and philosophy.
It is named after the 1858 Illinois Senatorial Campaign, in which there were seven debates between Republican Challenger Abraham Lincoln and Democratic Senator Stephen Douglas, focused on slavery and the morals, values, and logic behind it.
What to Expect Competing in Lincoln-Douglas
Policy Debate is a two-on-two debate where an affirmative team proposes a plan and the negative team argues why that plan should not be adopted. Throughout the debate, students have the opportunity to cross-examine one another. A judge determines the winner based on the arguments presented.
The topic stays the same for the duration of the academic year.

Policy Debate - an Introduction
Congressional Debate is a simulation of the U.S. Congress. In this event, students generate a series of bills and resolutions for debate in advance and alternate delivering speeches for and against the topic in a group setting.
Students are assessed on their research, argumentation, and delivery skills, as well as their knowledge and use of parliamentary procedure.
Students form opinions on current events and learn about the U.S. legislative process in the Senate and the House.
