Turf Toe
The Purpose: The purpose of this technique is to limit the excessive extension of the great toe.
The Materials:
Tough Skin
1 inch white athletic tape
2 inch powerflex
1/2 inch elasticon (optional)
The Positioning: The Athlete should be positioned on a table or bench, sitting with their foot completely dorsiflexed, hanging off the table or bench to the base of the calf, and the great toe needs to be in neutral position
The Application:
Spray the toe, and side of the foot with tough skin.
Apply an anchor to the great toe and around the arch of the foot with 1 inch tape.
Apply strips along the plantar aspect of the foot to prevent hyperextension of the toe with 1 inch tape.
Apply strips along the dorsal surface of the toe to prevent hyperflexion of the toe with 1 inch tape.
Apply figure 8 strips to the medial side of great toe. Can be 1 inch tape or elasticon.
Cover tape job with powerflex.
