Ankle
The Purpose: The purpose of this technique is to limit the range of motion involved with inversion ankle sprains and excessive movements in the talocrural joint.
The Materials:
Tough Skin (optional)
Lubricated Heel and Lace pads (optional)
Pre-wrap
1.5 inch white athletic tape
The Positioning: The Athlete should be positioned on a table or bench, sitting with their foot completely dorsiflexed, hanging off the table or bench to the base of the calf.
The Application:
Provide a thin layer of tough skin over the entire area to be taped.
Place 1 heel and lace pad at each high friction area.
Apply Pre-wrap to the entire area to be taped.
Place two anchors immediately distal to the gastroc-achilles tendon junction.
Apply three stirrups from medial to lateral and anchor the “horseshoe” strips.
Completely enclose leg with horizontal strips.
Complete 2 medial and 2 lateral heel locks.
Complete a figure 8
Cover any holes in the tape job.
