Active School Flag
1. Physical Education
Pupils from different class levels formed a committee and designed a poster to promote physical activity containing our school slogan which is “We are fit, we are fun. Be more active everyone”.
The Active Committee have been very busy throughout the year.
They created an Active Board which has our poster, our run around Ireland map, our active homework sheet, 7 fundamental movements and game of the month. We will be adding to this as the year progresses with our Active Week plan.
The Active Committee made active jars with different exercises on each lollipop stick. We have committed to a four week active break every day challenge! We use these jars and active dances like go noodle when it is raining outside at yard time.
The active committee did an audit of our PE equipment and labelled our storage shelves.
We have introduced active leaders during our yard time. Different pupils every week from the senior room teach the junior classes a different game and encourage everyone to stay active during yard times.
Our active walkway plaques have been a great addition to our school with children enjoying the orienteering challenges and team work for physical activity but also cross curricular activities like World Book Day and Seachtain na Gaeilge. No doubt theses will be utilised throughout the school year.
Feel Good Fridays where we play music on the yard has been enjoyed by all and a great alternative way to get more active.
To promote the physical, social, emotional and intellectual development of the child.
To develop positive personal qualities.
To help in the acquisition of an appropriate range of movement skills in a variety of contexts.
To promote understanding and knowledge of the various aspects of movement.
To develop an appreciation of movement and the use of the body as an instrument of expression and creativity.
To promote enjoyment of physical activity , develop a positive attitude towards physical activities and develop an appreciation of its contribution to lifelong health and related fitness. Consequently, the child is being prepared and equipped to enjoy an active and purposeful use of leisure time.
