Our students are already using AI, but many of them lack the guidance and skills to use it ethically or effectively for their future careers. This week, we challenge you to lead a small "AI Audit" in your class. Consider introducing a “Let’s see what AI has to say about this...” moment. Students can generate an AI response (text, image or video) on a course topic, then collaboratively critique its accuracy, quality, and bias and evaluate differences based on individual prompts. Brief, low-stakes moments transform AI from a "cheating tool" into a critical literacy lesson that prepares students for the modern workforce. Empower your students to take charge of their own exam prep by teaching them to transform their lecture notes into personalized practice quizzes. Generative AI isn't an objective truth-teller. It reflects the vast and often biased data it was trained on. You can help students develop critical cultural literacy by asking them to "interrogate the output”. AI often defaults to "safe" or generic tropes, providing a powerful opening for students to discuss whose voices are amplified and whose are silenced in digital spaces.
