It is with great enthusiasm that I introduce myself as the new director of bands at Wilson High School. Along with our amazing students, I plan to build a thriving marching band and color guard program. With over 22 years of K-12 teaching experience, I'm confident I can help the Wilson band program experience tremendous growth.

The Wilson High School Marching Band is the most visible musical group on campus. For that reason, it is critical that each member display a high level of character and professionalism at all times.
As a team of students, we will support one another through the learning process. Challenges will be met with hard work and patience. Conflicts will be addressed with poise and maturity.
Every student who is committed to the pursuit of musical and artist excellence will have a place in the Wilson Band and Color Guard Family.
Just like football, our season starts immediately when school begins. Therefore, it's critical that we begin rehearsing a few weeks before school starts. All students MUST attend Training Camp to be admitted into the field show.
Training camp will begin with half-day rehearsals from Aug. 7-11. Full-day rehearsals will go from Aug. 14-18. We will return to half-day rehearsals from Aug. 21-25. Check the schedule of events for exact times and locations (Note: Color Guard will be at Lakewood H.S. Aug. 7-9)
4-8pm - All Families Welcome! More details to follow.
Band students will need a band t-shirt ($15), marching shoes ($30), and a flip folio ($5) for a total of $50. (Returning students might have these items already.)
Color Guard will need a rally day uniform and a field show costume. total of $100
The Wilson High School Marching Band and Color Guard program is a competition-based program, much like a sport. To afford the costs of designing, teaching, and participating in field show competitions, we rely on financial support from the school, our families, and the community.
Our largest expenses are transportation and coaching fees. Transportation to each competition is approximately $2500! We also have to pay for entry fees, music costs, and equipment.
Who are the coaches and what do they do? This year, we have three coaches and a drill writer. Each coach focuses on one area that is scored at the competition. Karl Arrieta will return as our drumline/percussion coach. Bryan Taga will return as our visual coach, working on marching and other choreography for the band. Jonah Batac, new to Wilson this year, will be our color guard coach, in charge of choreography, skill development, costumes, and props for the color guard. We are also fortunate to have Gordon Henderson, my former band director at UCLA, as our drill designer. Meet our coaches HERE!
(Other schools in Long Beach are asking for $325 to $500 per student.)
Remind is a texting app which allows for safe communication between teachers, parents, and students. All messages sent are archived and all cell phone numbers are hidden. This is our primary method of communication for both students and parents.
