The International Baccalaureate (IB) has been a global leader in international education since the late 1960s. It was founded in response to the tragedies of the First and Second World Wars, with the aim of fostering a more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and ethical decision-making supported by a rigorous educational framework.
The IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) aims to develop internationally minded individuals who recognize their shared humanity and responsibility for the planet. At its core, the programme encourages openness to the world and an awareness of our deep interconnectedness with others.
To be open to the world, we must first understand it. The MYP engages students in sustained inquiry into a variety of local and global issues and ideas. This curiosity and global perspective are essential in today’s world, where globalization and technology continue to dissolve the boundaries between local, national, and international communities.
International-mindedness is also fostered through global engagement and meaningful community service. These experiences challenge students to reflect critically on issues of power and privilege, recognize their role as stewards of the Earth, and move from awareness to action to effect meaningful change.
As the oldest IB-accredited school within the Lester B. Pearson School Board (LBPSB), we wholeheartedly embrace the spirit of our motto: "To strive, to seek, to find." At PCHS, we inspire students to become lifelong learners and globally minded citizens. With the commitment of our staff and students and the support of parents and the community, PCHS will:
Prepare students for future educational and occupational pursuits.
Instill respect and understanding of diverse individuals and cultures.
Create a safe, inclusive environment that promotes cooperation, pride, tolerance, common courtesy, self-confidence, social responsibility, and environmental stewardship.
Provide educational opportunities that challenge students to reach their potential, resulting in age-appropriate literacy, problem-solving abilities, and media literacy.
Develop students’ functional fluency in both English and French.
Support students in developing perseverance, punctuality, study skills, and consistent work habits.
Encourage student participation in creative and performing arts, athletics, and school life to achieve a balanced experience.
An IB education at PCHS is more than academics—it is a journey of growth, discovery, and purpose. Our students graduate with the skills and mindset needed to thrive in a complex and ever-changing world.
The IB Learner Profile describes who IB students are and who they aspire to become. It reflects the IB’s commitment to developing curious, compassionate, and principled young people who use their learning to make a positive difference.
IB learners strive to be inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced, and reflective. These attributes guide students to act with integrity, think critically, and engage respectfully with others.
An IB education nurtures passionate, lifelong learners who value not only what they learn but also how and why they learn. It encourages students to build strong relationships, think creatively, and act with integrity—developing the confidence and perseverance to achieve ambitious goals.
Through inquiry, action, and reflection, students connect classroom learning with real-world experiences. They engage with diverse cultures and languages, broadening their perspectives and deepening their global awareness.
Ultimately, the IB equips students to address local and global challenges—ranging from environmental sustainability and human rights to conflict resolution and international cooperation—while empowering them to shape a better future.
