Teachers, professionals and administrators have noticed a decline in the literacy levels of students entering the classroom. Students who have weak literacy skills are at risk of not completing their education. These adult learners need explicit and appropriate literacy instruction across the curriculum.
Through this 2018-2019 project, the English Adult Educational community mobilized its expertise and resources from across the province in order to help students develop their English literacy skills and, consequently, increase success and graduation rates.
This year's presenter was Wendy King, a veteran teacher at the high school level for 30 years. During that time, Wendy served as Enrichment Coordinator, Pedagogical Coordinator, and worked with the Ministry on various committees. Following that, Wendy was the English Language Arts consultant (responsible for the ELA program from kindergarten to secondary V) for the Eastern Townships School Board. Wendy has researched and given workshops on various non-ELA subjects, including aspects of Professional Learning Communities, Formative Assessment, and Trauma-Sensitive Teachers/Schools.

The RECIT's Tracy Rosen created these resources on "Fix-Up Strategies" (available in both English and French) in support of the EPC Literacy project.
