Welcome to the Fleming Group Website!

Our group is interested in exploring the dynamics of complex condensed phase systems using ultrafast spectroscopy, imaging, and theory. We are currently investigating the ultrafast dynamics of energy transfer in natural and artificial photosynthetic systems, as well as in nanomaterials. Additionally, we are studying photoprotection, damage, and repair mechanisms in photosynthetic organisms with high spatial and temporal resolution.

Our group is made up of a diverse group of graduate students and post-doctoral scholars from many different fields within science and engineering. If you are interested in applying to graduate school to work with our group, consider applying to the Chemistry, Applied Sciences and Technology, or Biophysics graduate programs.

While we focus on scientific research during our time here at UC Berkeley, we of the Fleming group also recognize that we exist within a diverse community and must take certain actions to ensure that there is equal treatment for all and that we act now to combat racism, sexism, and all forms of discrimination, especially as that discrimination affects those in science and in academia. For our full diversity statement, including the action we have committed to, please see here.

Please feel free to attend any of our regularly scheduled Group Meetings.
