 About The Teacher: Mrs. Conklin-Kearney

During my formative years, I harbored a deep curiosity about the workings of our world. As a college student, I was among ten individuals chosen to undertake a research expedition to the Brazilian Amazon Rainforest alongside renowned scientist Marc van Roosmalen. Our objective was to gather data on a species of dwarf marmoset monkey inhabiting the depths of the Brazilian Amazonia. This experience ignited my passion for research, adventure, education, and nature, fostering a profound desire to comprehend the underlying "WHYs" of the natural world.

Since then, I engaged in numerous scientific and educational expeditions, traversing some of the most biodiverse regions on Earth, including Costa Rica, Indonesia, Borneo, Kenya, Zanzibar, the Galapagos, Alaska, and Madagascar. These ventures facilitated the establishment of robust connections with various international research institutions. Additionally, I collaborated with the Global Exploration for Educators Organization (GEEO), contributing to the development of educational materials aimed at integrating international travel experiences into classroom settings.

I am an active contributor to the scientific community, holding memberships in esteemed organizations such as the National Science Teacher Association (NSTA), The National Geographic Educator’s Network, and the Atlantic Marine Conservation Society (AMseas). My involvement extends to publishing educational curriculum and engaging in research endeavors. My published works integrates current scientific literature into interdisciplinary projects, offering students across various grade bands the opportunity to engage in research activities.

As I serve on the Scientific Review Committee (SRC) for various science fairs across Long Island and New York State, it is a privilege to mentor young researchers as they embark on their journeys of exploration and discovery.
