AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society
Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a program designed to ensure that students are prepared to attend and succeed at four-year colleges and universities. Part of that system is the AVID Elective and AVID Excel Elective Classes, which are offered to 7th and 8th grade students at Foshay Learning Center. To prepare our students for 7th grade AVID and AVID Excel, we offer 6th grade pre-AVID courses. Students selected to participate in the AVID Elective and AVID Excel Elective Classes will have an opportunity to learn organizational and study skills, work on critical thinking and asking probing questions, and participate in enrichment activities to enhance a college ready mindset.
