“I brought a boombox to school. After school, I hung out with my friends, tried to go trick-or-treating, but it didn’t go as planned. I also went around Jewish neighborhoods to get full size candies.”

The Regent Roar asked students “Would you rather go back in time and fix past mistakes or go forward to avoid future mistakes and why?”

Here are the responses we got:

“ I would rather go forward to avoid future mistakes because what happened in the past stays there, and there’s no need to go back and relive them.”

- Lesly Mejia, Volleyball Player, Police Academy Squad Leader

“I would go to the past to fix past mistakes because it would change how everything is today.”

- Mildred Lopez, Freshman

“ I would go forward to avoid future mistakes because if I were to go back, I wouldn't have learned from my mistakes and so just living through those experiences and then going forward will help me toughen up and be more aware of what I should and should not do.”

- Mayeli Portillo, Sophomore, Police Academy Squad Leader

We at the journalism class interviewed students about the beginning of the school year, 2022-23.

Here are some of their responses:

“It was busy, but fun.”

- Vidushi Dabare, Junior, Police Academy

“My first day was a little trash. I felt distanced from a lot of people because a lot of time passed. It was hard to get that sense of familiarity.”

- Pilar Fisher, Senior, Science Academy

“My first week was confusing and uneasy because of the new environment and people.”

- Sophia Lopez, Freshman

“Dismissive, exhausted.”

- Jericho Fugieno, Sophomore, Police Academy

“It’s been pretty good, it’s honestly too easy. I’m too good for school, I really only came for football.”

- Alex F., Junior

“My first day of school was pretty lonely at first; however, throughout the day, I hung out with a group of boys who took me in as their friend. It’s quite funny since I’m a senior now, but being back at school is still something to get used to, yet I look forward to what’s to come and participate in school spirit activities!”

- Angela Jimenez, Senior, Police Academy, XC team and SRLA
