Step 1: Make an appointment to meet with a DSP&S Specialist to review your documentation and discuss reasonable accommodations. To schedule a meeting, please call DSP&S at (818) 364-7732 or click link above.
Step 3: Bring or email your disability documentation to your DSP&S appointment or prior to appointment. The DSP&S office is located in room 1018 of the Instructional Administration (IA) building.
Step 4: Each semester, reach written accommodation agreement with the DSP&S Specialist and your instructor. New Students: We have the Cranium Cafe system on our college DSPS website where any DSPS student can can live chat with a DSPS staff/counselors. However, the student first need to have applied to LAMC ID# first to grant access. DSPS staff routes DSPS students to appropriate DSPS Counselors to do an intake and complete the office paperwork. First, Student should Apply to LAVC . After student receives a confirmation email (takes up to one to two weeks) with a student ID#, they can then email to our office their Verification of Disability (VOD) i.e. the most Recent IEP, Doctor's verification letter (this form can be found on our website), Verification stating the diagnosis from a licensed physician,to SSD@lavc.edu. Students should include a call-back number.
After the VOD is reviewed, SSD office may request additional verification, depending on what the IEP disability is. The student will be emailed a new student packet to fill out. Once LAVD SSD receives the VOD and screen it for eligibility, we call the student to schedule the new student appointment.
The student can also access us via the LAVC's SSD Webpage. On https://www.lavc.edu/student-services/spr/ssd, there is a LiveChat/Help Desk where students can schedule their own Intake Appointment. The intake appointment is either a VideoChat through Cranium Cafe or a Phone Call appointment with a SSD Counselor. Please allow 1 hour for the Intake Appointment.

2. You will need to provide medical verification of your disability such as a copy of your IEP, or a note from your medical provider, or assessment results from testing for a learning disability, etc.

DSPS students who go through all the remote steps by April 24 should receive Priority Registration.
Students will be contacted at a later date (TBA) to attend a group Zoom DSPS Orientation, presented by all 3 DSPS Counselors. At that time, they will be instructed to schedule a remote meeting with one of us to complete the DSPS Application, review the IEP, develop a Student Educational Contract, and discuss approved accommodations and classes.

Our offices are are "meeting " with students on Zoom, phone calls, Facetime and email. Testing accommodations are being facilitated through the IAC and HTC on Canvas and Zoom. Notetaking is being provided. All DSPS support services are still occurring, even real -time captioning.
