Black Excellence Experience

The HBCU tours were designed to bring an awareness of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities, educational institutions that were designed specifically with Black/ African American students in mind. HBCUs historically have a  primary focus and a clear understanding of the Black experience as well as celebrating and supporting Black excellence. 

The HBCU tours were established to support students with increasing their understanding of the multiple college/university options they have access to. The primary benefits of the HBCU tours are to increase college awareness, insight a desire and drive to go to college, and see clear representation of themselves and Black excellence across the campus.  

 In connection to the LAUSD Strategic Plan; Pillar 1  Academic Excellence 1D- College and Career Readiness focuses on supporting students in visualizing their after high school opportunities and ensuring they are provided with tools and supports to reach the intended goals. As it relates to the BSAP 5 Tenets; this experience directly aligns to the “Black Excellence Experience”, which will directly increase our Graduation Rate and move to eliminate the policies and practices that contribute to the school to prison pipeline, as indicated in our BSAP 16 Success Indicators.
