All Library Fines and Fees are due before graduation. Unpaid fees from other LAUSD schools must also be resolved. The library does NOT resolve textbook or chromebook charges. Please refer to the Main Office regarding these charges.
LAUSD Policy Documents
We acknowledge that some library fines/fees were added to student accounts unfairly due to books that were borrowed from January-March 2020. Due to the nature of the COVID-19 Pandemic, we are working to resolve certain account issues. This will be in effect as long as there are related issues, up to the Class of 2032.
How do you check your account status?
Open Schoology, go to the apps or "waffle" menu. Click on Destiny Library. From there, you may need to click on My Info to view your checkouts or Items Out and Fines.
LOST BOOKS: If you have any library books at home that belong to LA High, or another LAUSD school, bring them back to Mr. Judd in the LA High Library to resolve your account charges. If you cannot find a book that is listed on your account, Mr. Judd can discuss the situation with you to find a resolution and/or determine if a lost book fee is required.
LOST BOOK FEES: Once a book is marked as "lost," your account will be charged a standard amount based on the type of book. Mr. Judd will investigate the actual replacement costs for your lost book(s) and determine if the Lost Book Fee can be lowered.
DAMAGED BOOKS: A lost or ripped book jacket (aka dust cover) for a hardcover book is damage to the book. Wet, warped or ripped pages are also considered damaged. Damage costs are determined based on the cost of book repair or replacement.
LATE FEES: Each school library determines the amount they charge students for late fees. Average fines are 10-20 cents per day. Some schools will charge up to $5 for late fees, others typically charge up to $2 for late fees. Late fees are becoming more rare for public libraries and many LAUSD libraries are also discussing removing late fees in the future. For now, payments are expected.
MAKING A PAYMENT: At the Ray Bradbury Library, you can only pay fines/fees in person, cash only. Arrangements can be made for students who cannot afford to pay their fees. In this case, students will be able to work in the library before school, during lunch, or after school, and compensated for their time to remove fines. Please ask Mr. Judd for more information.
WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?: Based on LAUSD Library Practices, any money collected for fines and fees at one school site shall remain at that school site. The money paid to the Ray Bradbury Library will be used to purchase replacement books for the students at Los Angeles High School.
