Space: Select a quiet area for homework like a classroom, library, cafeteria, or multi-purpose room. An ideal location has tables and seats for all students.
Seating: Group students by grade level and/or by the same teacher.
Supplies: Make sure supplies like pencils, paper, erasers, glue, or crayons are available to all students during homework time.
Sounds: Play study/instrumental music with low volume. Try to keep the noise level down.
Individual Help: Provide individual help when needed. Consider limiting the time you can help per student.
Group Help: Support several students at once if they have the same question. Ask the class if anyone else has the same question.
Peer to Peer Support: Encourage students to assist each other, but remind them that they should not copy each other.
If additional support is needed, communicate the teachers to learn more about students' assignments.
Brain Breaks: Facilitate brain breaks or physical activities to re- energize students. Use movements like classroom yoga.
Be Aware: Monitor the room at all times and walk around to see if students are on task.
Set Up Stations: Create two to three activity stations or centers. Each station should have one activity. Students can choose the activities and rotate as needed.
