Grading Policies

This class uses Mastery Grading and Learning practices, which means that students are expected to continue to practice skills until they master them. Exit Tickets serve as formative assessments and are graded out of 4. 

Writing Assignments will be graded out of 8, except for FRQs in AP courses, which will be graded out of 7 to reflect the College Board's standard rubric.

Late Work and Re-Dos 

Part of Mastery grading means that students are not punished for late work. However, all assignments in my class are attached to due dates, which are recommended timelines for students to complete work by to stay caught up in the class. Even though it is possible to complete all assignments at the end of the semester, it is not recommended, and completing assignments on time provide more time for re-dos/reattempts. 

Deadlines for late work will be posted on the white boards in class and on Schoology. 

Plagiarism and Academic Dishonesty 

Any plagiarism (copying or using work that you did not create without citing a source) will result in an automatic zero. 

This includes anything created or altered by Generative AI. 

ANY use of Generative AI, including to edit or alter your own work is considered plagiarism and will be issued a zero. (For example: putting your rough draft into an AI tool and telling it to “make it clearer” or “in a more academic style” - this is cheating) 

ESPECIALLY in social studies , AI is incredibly dangerous because its sources are often unclear or wholly invented. 

If I suspect any of your assignments have been created or altered using AI, it will earn a zero and I will include “suspected AI usage” in the comments on Schoology. You will then be given the opportunity to redo the assignment - handwritten, during lunch or advisory, while I am in possession of your phone. You will also have to give an oral presentation on the assignment. 

Just like AI, I am not perfect. If you feel as if you have been wrongly accused of using AI, please come speak to me. You will given the same opportunity to redo your work - if it is really your own work, this should be an easy redo.
