In my classes you will be graded with something called Mastery Grading. This way of grading students is a little different compared to how students have often been graded in classes in the past. A student’s grade used to be graded on the percentage of homework they completed with the percentage of knowledge they could communicate. Mastery Grading is different, because now a student’s academic grade will be only be based on how well that student mastered specific “learning targets”. Each learning target will have multiple types of assessments that give the student a chance to demonstrate how well they have mastered that learning target. Each of these Learning Targets are graded on the 4 point scale seen below. Homework and class work, however will not impact your academic grade in this class. (Your academic grade is the A,B, C, D, or F you get on your report card in each class). Instead, your homework and classwork will count towards your work habits grade only.
For classwork/homework students have until the following Monday to get full credit, and then 50% credit if submitted after that Monday until the end of that unit. For assessments students have until the end of that unit to complete or retake.
