SPECIAL DANCE PROGRAMS
The purpose of the Dance Company is to gain experience as a performer and work on professionalism in dance. Dance Company is an after-school commitment, rehearsing 2 days a week from 4:00 - 6:00PM. Dance Company supports school athletics/activities and represents the Performing Arts Academy & Magnet as well. Our performances are on campus, off campus, and at many different venues/spaces. Dance Company performs at sports games, pep rallies, and the dance shows. We also participate in professional workshops offered on and off campus with some amazing guest artists. Dance Company is a great opportunity for your student to practice dedication, commitment and reliability. Dancers strengthen their communication skills through effectively working within a group and as a group. Our goal is to be prepared when opportunities come, today is for tomorrow. ☺
The Musical Theater Dance periods (Peridos 5 & 6 with Ms. Pontillas) are connected to the Advance Musical Theater program at Armstrong. Students accepted into Musical Theater are automatically enrolled in MT Dance. The curriculum is tailored to meet the Musical Theater's Program's rehearsal demands for each show, including a faster pace intermediate/advanced curriculum, where students are expected to learn multiple dance pieces for each semester's production. There is also the possibility of performing in Winterfest and the Black History Assembly/Shows.
At the end of the year, recommended students are able to audition for the Intermediate II & Advanced Dance classes. Students undergo a mock class and are accepted into the class by teacher approval. These classes offer dance curriculum at a faster pace at an intermediate/advanced level.
