This Family Guide is an actionable tool to help parents understand key pillars of the Strategic Plan. This guide equips parents to engage in powerful conversations with school and district leaders to ensure schools are meeting goals for students. In order to achieve the ambitious academic and social emotional goals set forth in the Strategic Plan, parents must be engaged as partners. 

A History of the Family Guide

In 2022, Superintendent Carvalho released a strategic plan for LAUSD called, Ready for the World, that sets ambitious goals to improve student achievement and close opportunity gaps by 2026. This Plan was informed by tens of thousands of stakeholder voices.

When the Superintendent met with parent leaders from the non-profit Innovate Public Schools in November 2022, he committed to develop a family guide that would help families understand what’s being promised in the Strategic Plan.

LAUSD worked in collaboration with Innovate Public Schools to develop this Family Guide and held Listening Sessions with parents and principals to hear from our school communities in order to develop a resource that will help guide conversations between parents, families and school and district leaders. 

The contents of this guide are rooted in parent voice and has been designed in partnership with parents, principals and District administration.
