Templates and Image Libraries

Images for communication devices, boards, cards, and books help pre-literate students develop symbolic understanding. For example, a photograph of a cookie is actually a SYMBOL for the cookie. Some students with emerging understanding of symbols are better able to recognize PHOTOGRAPHS of familiar people, objects, and places rather than a generic photo or line-based drawing of a person, object, or place. Below is a list of websites and apps that are useful in creating templates and gathering line drawings for symbol-based communication.

Boardmaker - Paid subscripton-based access through a browser. Templates and image library compatible with TobiiDynavox apps such as Snap Core First, Communicator 5, and Sonoflex.

Custom Boards - Paid iPad app to make custom overlays for a variety of mid-tech devices. This is very useful tool for creating your own visual supports. Use your own images or choose from their extensive Smarty Ears symbol library.

GoTalk 9+ Template - Free template on Microsoft Word format. Insert your own images.

Lesson Pix - Paid subscription-based access through a browser. Templates, image library, and pre-made lessons.

Symbol Overlay Maker - Free iPad app to easily make printable sheets for AbleNet devices (Big Mac, iTalk 4, QuickTalker, TalkingBrix 2, Step-by-Step, etc.) . Use your own images, or choose from their symbol library.

SymbolStix Prime - Paid subscription-based access through a browser. Templates and image library compatible with GoTalk Now, TouchChat HD, Proloquo2go, and the Unique learning program.
