Students are introduced to the basic principles of animation and will create their own 2D animations primarily through traditional stop-motion. Many of the projects will focus on simple hand methods. The four main projects they will be producing in this class will be an Animated Portrait, Hand-drawn Character Dance, Claymation and a final project where the student can choose medium/style/technique.
Students will enter the role of “Artist” and become animators using the skills, tools and processes required to express themselves in a variety of animation media. Along the way we will examine the history of animation and the power and influence traditional animation and computer generated imagery has in our contemporary culture.

In their Film: The Integrated Art course, Magnet students utilize the framework of a "pitch deck" in order to review (or pitch) the Academy Award-winning documentary, Free Solo (2018), to prospective viewers based on the film's cinematography.
Magnet students practice their analytical skills in order to report on the historical significance of particular films. Additionally, students develop their writing through the format of evidence-based film reviews in which they evaluate the effectiveness of specific cinematic techniques and styles.
