Budget - The budget was used primarily for guest educators such as indigenous artist Lazaro Aruizu Jr., and muralist and educator Alejandra Fernandez. We attended the Social Forest, Oaks of Tovaangar exhibit at The Broad, which Lazaro helped to design. With his guidance, students created paintings using earth materials such as yucca fronds and stones to make brushes, and iron ore pigment. Students created images and collaborated to design a mural that will be on one side of the garden, as well as other areas on campus. We also attended a trip to Audubon at Debs Park where we learned more about urban green spaces, California native plants and wildlife, and planted trees with Tree People. The trips were connected to our efforts on campus in the Wellness Garden. Additionally, we purchased more soil and materials for plant-based art projects. These were presented at the Open House and the progress shared with parents and the school community at this event and Earth Day activities. Our principal has allocated funds which allowed us to purchase picnic tables for the garden, and supported the Wellness Garden for the past 2 years.
